Medical Dissection of every-day Products.
Whilst disassembling a common household product, such as a hairdryer, we were surprised by the number of distinct components and materialities we identified.
Challenged by the task to take all pieces apart from one another before returning to re-assembling them, we noticed that todays designers plan for the obsolescence of their products. Our ‘throw away culture' encourages consumerism and ignores the possibility of repairing and reusing existing product parts.
Through an exploration of all the different elements within the Nomad Hair Dryer, we analysed their precise function and discovered in detail their complex working mechanisms - which we usually take for granted in our every day lives.
Detailed (digital) sketching and blueprinting allowed us to comment on all the above; and to lay out a manual for the buildup of this product. Softwares used include Adobe Illustrator and Indesign.
